Timeline   [after the holodeck with Kat’ar and Ilphae]
Lt. Michael Walker was restless in his bed. The port windows were covered to keep out the starlight as the ship passed. He couldn’t get out of his own head. The night before was wonderful and it was a nightmare. The truth was that he had heard that the counselor was interested in other men, and that he was Betazoid. The science officer was interested in Kat’ar for numerous reasons, but the fact that there was another gay person on the ship, who was like him, made him quiver even before the two met. Walker was bummed when Kat’ar brought Ilphae. Walker wanted time alone with Kat’ar, so he could gage the counselor’s personality. The night went smoothly as Michael remembered it, but something wasn’t right. As Kat’ar scanned Michael’s mind to know what he was thinking, Michael had been doing the same thing to Kat’ar. Michael knew exactly how Kat’ar felt about Jeremy, and deep inside Michael, he knew that no matter what, he was never going to live up to the high standards that Kat’ar apparently had. Eventually he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, thinking about what would have happened if the hologram didn’t interrupt their dessert.

[the next day]

“come in”, Kat’ar sounded repetitive.

Michael Walker walked through the open doorway and proceeded to sit in a chair that was next to Kat’ar’s metallic desk. The chair he eventually settled in seemed to be a bit lumpy and mildly uncomfortable.

“Counselor Ves, I had an appointment to see you today at 0900.”

“Mike…well this is a pleasant surprise. I don’t think I should be your counselor though. Maybe you should make an appointment with Lt. Miller instead?”

Michael shook his head, “No, Counselor Ves, I came to see you”
Kat’ar ran through the actions of last night in his head. What happened from those wild thoughts to professional communicating? Was it the music? Was it Jeremy? Was it that he brought Ilphae along?

“…and please, from now on refer to me as Lt. Walker”.
Kat’ar looked stunned as Lt. Walker looked the half Vulcan in his jet black eyes, “I really can’t associate with you right now. I know it’s not polite but I was reading you while we were having those deserts, and honestly, I know you still have feelings for whoever Jeremy is. I know you couldn’t ever like me as much as you liked him (maybe even loved him). I know that I said I wanted to meet you and for us to become friends. I was just intrigued by the idea of you. I’m sorry for wasting your time counselor”

Michael tried to hurry himself out of the counselor’s office. The door seemed to close quickly this time. It didn’t reopen with Michael pulling his head back in and saying “just kidding”. Kat’ar knew Michael really felt that way.

Kat’ar took a deep breath. This was the first time he was trying to look past his own past. His new friends were supposed to be his future. He shook his head and ran his fingers through his manicured hair and thought to himself I am so disappointed. If only you would have given me a chance t to prove how loyal and sweet I can be…and now it’s over before it even began.

The counselor looked down at his notes and began scrolling through them, trying to distract himself from what he was thinking. It was times like this he wished he grew up on Vulcan.
